Borough President Molinaro to Host Halloween Event at Bloomingdale Park
October 30th event will showcase new park
STATEN ISLAND, NY – Borough President James P. Molinaro announced today that he will host a Halloween Eve Celebration at Bloomingdale Park on Saturday, October 30th from 1:00-4:00 p.m.
The Borough President is urging all children and parents to come and enjoy a fun afternoon at our Borough’s newest park. Costumes are encouraged, and numerous activities will be available, such as pumpkin picking (children 14 years and younger, one pumpkin per child, while supplies last), trick or treating, crafts, balloon animals, temporary tattoos, face painting, and games. Characters such as Spiderman and Batman will also be on hand to greet the children. Snug Harbor volunteers will provide supplies for pumpkin decoration and mask making.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for children to celebrate the holiday in a safe, fun environment. It also allows Staten Islanders to enjoy Bloomingdale Park, the newest addition to the ‘Borough of Parks’,” Molinaro said. “The completion of Bloomingdale Park has brought much needed recreation space to the South Shore of Staten Island, and I am delighted that residents of all ages are now able to enjoy the numerous amenities the park offers.”
Ground was broken for Bloomingdale Park in February 2003, and work was completed this past September. The 138-acre park includes fields for softball, baseball and soccer, a new playground complete with sprinklers and swings, two basketball courts, a bocce court, and a comfort station. There are also nature trails and a bicycle path.
“I hope the children of Staten Island will join my staff and I for an exciting afternoon. I look forward to seeing the wonderful costumes and would like to remind parents to bring their cameras in order to capture precious memories,” Molinaro said.
The activities will take place at the playground and new fields adjacent to Ramona and Lenevar Avenues. Parking is available on Maguire Avenue. Anyone wishing further information may call Joanne Nuzzo, Director of Special Events for the Borough President, at 718-816-2133.
