Borough President Molinaro announces new hours for South Beach Park-n-Ride

Parks Dept. concedes to BP’s request for extended hours

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. –  Borough President James P. Molinaro today announced that at his request, the Parks Department has agreed to extend the hours of the Park-N-Ride at South Beach to midnight, effective Tuesday, October 11th.  The hours of the parking lot adjacent to the Dolphin Fountain will also be extended to midnight.

“I received numerous complaints from motorists and users of the Boardwalk that their cars were being ticketed and locked in the facility after 10 p.m.  I called upon the Parks Department to extend the hours to accommodate those who are working late or who are enjoying the Boardwalk into the late evening hours,” Molinaro said.

“I would like to thank the Parks Department for agreeing to my request for extended hours.  I’m confident that this change will encourage more people to use the Park-N-Ride and to enjoy our newly renovated Boardwalk and beachfront,” Moilnaro said.

Signs will be put up over the weekend to alert parking lot users to the new hours. “I am pleased that commuters informed my office of the problem, and I am even more pleased that the Parks Department worked quickly to improve the situation.  I urge commuters to call my Help Line at 718-816-2000, to inform me of any other transportation concerns,” Molinaro concluded.
