B.P. Molinaro dispatches his ‘Clean Team’ to clear Clove Lake public parking lot

Kicks Off Islandwide “Spring Cleaning” Campaign

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Borough President James P. Molinaro today dispatched his “Clean Team” to clear the Clove Lake Park public parking lot of debris and to kick off his Islandwide “Spring Cleaning” campaign.

      “Over the winter months, the lot sustained considerable damage,” Molinaro said. “The parking lot is used by visitors to Clove Lakes Park and the Staten Island Zoo. Cars and buses – not to mention snow removal equipment – have taken their toll on the pavement.”

      The Borough President’s “Clean Team,” comprised of Borough Hall staffers and Arthur Kill Correctional Facility inmates, were assisted by the Parks Department in clearing the lot of broken pavement and other debris, which is not only unsightly, but hazardous to the public.

      Today’s “Spring Cleaning” is a continuation of the “Clean Team’s” longtime, effective program that has cleared hundreds of public areas across the Island, including parks, cemeteries, roadsides, and City-owned lots.

      The Borough President announced that the “Clean Team” will be tackling these other big clean-ups in the coming weeks that were recommended by Community Boards, Borough Hall staffers and callers to the Borough President’s Helpline:

* Yukon Avenue/Platinum Avenue/Forest Hill Road

* Brielle Avenue/Rupert Avenue

* Fahy Avenue/Lamberts Lane

* Veterans Road West/Tyrellan Avenue

* Victory Boulevard Exit #7 of the West Shore Expressway (southbound)

* Hannah Street underpass (near Cromwell Center parking lot)

* Richmond Hill (“Snake Hill”) Road, by the golf course

* Bay Terrace/Amboy Road (train tracks)

* Ocean Terrace/Todt Hill Road

      “I couldn’t be more pleased with the success of my Clean Team,” said Molinaro. “With the help of the inmates and their supervisors, we make an impressive visible difference in the appearance of Staten Island’s public places.”

      Residents requesting trash clean-ups or graffiti removal can contact the Borough President’s Helpline at (718) 816-2000. The Helpline will record the complaints and put them on a list for future clean-ups.
