Borough President Molinaro: nothing less than capital punishment for child killers
Molinaro calls for reform after systemic torture and murder of 7-year-old Brooklyn girl
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Borough President James P. Molinaro today expressed strong support for a mandatory death sentence for those convicted of the systemic torture and murder of children, in the wake of the horrid revelations surrounding the death of 7-year-old Nixzmary Brown of Brooklyn. “Torturing and murdering a child is the ultimate crime,” Molinaro said. “Those who commit these heinous acts should receive the most severe punishment our justice system can offer.”
Molinaro’s support for a mandatory death sentence for the murderers of children comes after the Brooklyn girl was found beaten to death, allegedly by her parents. She had been repeatedly bound to a chair, and had injuries consistent with a child who has been beaten and abused for some time.
“We must get the best minds in criminal justice to make this legislation judge-proof and lawyer-proof, because too often in the past, capital punishment legislation supported by the majority of citizens is blocked continually by the courts,” Molinaro said.
“I am calling on our legislators to look at my recommendation that capital punishment be mandatory in cases that involve the abuse and murder of children,” Molinaro said. “It is time to put an end to lenient punishment for child murderers. Justice will only be served if capital punishment is permitted in these most terrible cases,” Molinaro concluded.
