Borough President Molinaro issues recommendation to deny de-mapping Pendale Street
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Borough President James P. Molinaro announced today that he will recommend to the Department of City Planning that an application to de-map Pendale Street in Oakwood be denied. The Borough President is authorized by the New York City Charter to provide a recommendation as part of the Uniform Land Use Review Process (ULURP) for particular applications.
The Borough President has 30 days to issue a written recommendation to City Planning. “Today is the first day of the 30 day period. I decided within the first hour of the first day to strongly recommend that this application be denied,” Molinaro said.
“What Community Board 3 did last night was disgraceful,” Molinaro said. “They voted in favor of de-mapping a road which, under current housing density regulations, could be the future site of upwards of nine homes. In contradiction of the efforts of two Mayoral task forces for growth management and traffic relief, how could Community Board 3 members responsibly vote against the community?”
“Last night, my Land Use Director Robert Englert testified before Community Board 3, expressing my concern that the property owner has not been forthcoming with the community. My office agrees with residents of the area who oppose the de-mapping. Residents made their voices heard last night, and unfortunately, a majority of Community Board 3 members chose to ignore them,” Molinaro said.
“These Community Board members did not have the best interest of the community in mind when they cast their votes last night. Just what special interest they did have in mind is unclear,” Molinaro said.
