Maintains Vital Programs that Serve the Borough’s Elderly
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Borough President James P. Molinaro today announced funding of $858,487 to 15 Staten Island-based senior programs as part of his “Borough Needs” allocations for Fiscal Year 2007.
“I am extremely proud that, despite fiscal shortfalls, I am able to maintain funding for these vital programs,” said Molinaro. “As the only Borough in the City to experience an increase in its elderly population over the last decade, preserving these critical services for our 70,000 seniors is of paramount importance. Mayor Bloomberg helped to continue the New Dorp Saturday program and many other programs that Staten Island seniors have come to rely upon. Although there are no guarantees for next year, I’d like to thank the Mayor for enabling Staten Island’s seniors to live with dignity and independence by retaining the programs that they need and deserve.”
