Island Savings Bank Contributes $10,000 Towards Child Diagnostic Center

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Borough President James P. Molinaro today announced that Northfield Savings Bank has donated $10,000 to The New York Foundling for Stephen’s House,

a new state-of-the-art diagnostic center in Stapleton for children who have suffered from abuse and neglect.

Staten Island’s banks, political leaders, and caring citizens have responded to the Campaign for Stephen’s House of The New York Foundling by raising close to $900,000 of the stated $1.5 million goal.

Three area foundations, Richmond County Savings Foundation, Staten Island Bank and Trust Foundation and Independence Community Foundation have been lead supporters for construction of Stephen’s House:

> Richmond County Savings Foundation                  $150,000

> Staten Island Bank and Trust Foundation             $150,000

> Independence Community Foundation               $25,000

“I was confident that the Staten Island community would come forward to make this very important campaign for The Foundling a success,” said Molinaro, Honorary Chair of the Campaign for Stephen’s House. “This project is very near and dear to my heart, and I am delighted that Northfield Savings Bank is joining our campaign by making this very generous donation to help Staten Island’s neediest children.”

John Alexander, Chairman and CEO of Northfield Savings Bank, said, “Northfield Savings Bank is honored to join our fellow members of the community in supporting the construction of a new home for the children of Stephen’s House of The New York Foundling.

Northfield is proud to be part of a project which not only honors the memory of Stephen Siller of the FDNY, but also directly supports the mission of The New York Foundling to provide a nurturing and caring environment for every child.”

Bill Baccaglini, Executive Director of The New York Foundling, said, “It was just over a year ago that Borough President Molinaro gathered the banking leaders on Staten Island to introduce to them The New York Foundling’s critical need to build a new diagnostic center for children in our care. Each of the banking leaders responded with compassion and generosity. Now, with the addition of a grant from Northfield Savings Bank, each of the banking leaders whom Borough President Molinaro reached out to has joined the campaign. We look forward to broad support from the Staten Island community to help us complete the campaign for this new facility. We are very grateful to the Borough President for all he has done for this project and for the children who will thrive in Stephen’s House of The New York Foundling.”
