Borough President Molinaro announces new appointee to Community Education Council

Westerleigh businessman will replace the late Charles Langere

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Borough President James P. Molinaro today announced that he has appointed Donald R. Pagano to the District 31 Community Education Council.

Pagano, of Westerleigh, replaces Charles Langere, who died last month.

“Staten Island students will be well served by Don Pagano,” said Molinaro. “Don has  many years of community experience with young people. He loves kids and recognizes that they are our future. I am confident that Don will bring vision, enthusiasm and insight to the CEC as we move ahead to improve our schools and create better learning opportunities for our children.”

Pagano, president of DRP Electrical Contracting Corp., said, “As an involved parent and the father of two school-age children, I am fully aware of the challenges facing today’s educators, and what our students need to succeed. As a self-made businessman, I am well versed on budgets and cash flow. I have successfully advocated for the health, education and recreational services that our children deserve.  I believe my professional experience and community service will prove invaluable to the CEC.”

An Empire State College graduate with an associates degree in applied sciences, Pagano serves on the board of the North Central Kiwanis, of which he is a past president. He is also a board member of the West Shore Little League, where he manages and coaches. He served two terms on the board of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and was a Boy Scout troop leader. He was a “Principal for a Day” at McKee High School, where he also served as a student advisor and guest speaker.

There are 32 Community Education Councils in New York City, each governing a Community School District that includes elementary and intermediate schools. Each council has 11 voting members, comprised of nine parents who currently have children in public schools within the district, and two appointees who live, own, or operate a business in the district. The last two appointees are chosen by the Borough Presidents to serve a two-year term.

Molinaro’s other appointee is Salvatore A. Ballarino, who was appointed in 2005 at the same time as Charles Langere.
