B.P. Molinaro seeks candidates for Borough Historian

Accepting letters of interest to succeed the late Richard Dickenson until May 1st

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Borough President James P. Molinaro today announced that he is seeking candidates for the position of Borough Historian, a post that has remained vacant since the death last year of Richard Dickenson.

“Whoever succeeds Dick Dickenson will have enormous shoes to fill,” said Molinaro. “He was a scholar and a gentleman who possessed a wealth of knowledge and was an invaluable resource for Staten Islanders and researchers from all over the country.

“As we approach the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s landing on Staten Island, where Borough Hall now stands, what better way to celebrate than by appointing a new Borough Historian for the 21st Century?” Molinaro added.

“As more and more people move to Staten Island, we continue to shed our historical alias as ‘The Forgotten Borough,’ Molinaro continued. “The role of Borough Historian will now become even more essential as people seek to learn about Staten Island’s shared heritage with New York City, the State, and its place in American history.”

Candidates for the non-salaried, 10-year position must reside on Staten Island and have credentials that emphasize historical research and writing. Applicants must be passionate advocates for Staten Island history and eager to disseminate knowledge of our Borough’s rich and fascinating past.

Applicants should send a letter of interest stating their qualifications and their vision of a 21st Century Borough Historian to Joanne Nuzzo, the Borough President’s Director of Special Events, Borough Hall, 10 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island, N.Y. 10301. Letters should be received no later than May 1st. For further information, please call (718) 816-2133.
