B.P Molinaro announces good news for public schools

Allocates $3.5 million in funding for capital improvements across the Borough

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Borough President James P. Molinaro today announced the allocation of $3.5 million for capital improvements at public schools across the Borough.

$1 million of the allocation is to fund 199 “Smart Boards” to be distributed among 19 elementary, intermediate, and high schools. Molinaro’s office was instrumental in making this  innovative 21st Century technology readily available to the greatest number of Staten Island public school students by pushing to make it a capital budget item. Instead of writing with chalk, students will now have the whole world of the Internet at their fingertips.

Molinaro has directed the remainder of his FY08 education capital funding as follows:

> $500,000  to Wagner HS for Football Field Repair

> $350,000  to Curtis HS for Auditorium Climate Control

> $250,000  to PS 32 for Library Upgrade

> $250,000  to PS 57 for Library Upgrade

> $225,000  to PS 1 for Computer Technology Upgrade

> $160,000  to IS 75 for 4 Wireless Laptop Carousels

“The best investment we can make in Staten Island’s future is with our schoolchildren,” said Molinaro. “In dire need, these schools requested upgrades for their facilities, and each year it is my distinct pleasure to provide educational resources in a safer and more attractive learning environment to help our students achieve their fullest potential and meet the challenges of the 21st Century.”
