B.P. Molinaro and DOT will help commuters hit with $110 ticket for parking on X’way service road
DOT will provide letter explaining signage change to help fight ticket
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Borough President James P. Molinaro today announced that anyone who received a ticket for parking on the north side of Narrows Road North between Fingerboard Road and Hylan Boulevard between July 27th and August 4th should contact his office to receive a letter from the Department of Transportation which will explain the change in signage at that location and help fight the ticket in court.
“DOT has temporarily put up ‘No Standing’ signs along the Staten Island Expressway service road between Fingerboard Road and Hylan Boulevard to create another lane for traffic and help alleviate the congestion due to construction work on the Verrazano Bridge toll plaza,” said Molinaro.
“But unfortunately, the new signs have created confusion among commuters who are used to parking there, and they have been contacting my office to complain that the new signs were not visible from where they parked and they received no warning about the new parking restrictions before being hit with a $110 ticket,” Molinaro added.
“In an act of fairness, the Department of Transportation has agreed to furnish a letter to anyone who received a ticket at that location between July 27th and August 4th, when the new signs went up, that explains the new parking restrictions to help the commuter fight the ticket in court,” said Molinaro.
The Borough President asks anyone who received a ticket at that location during that time period to contact his office, and they will receive a letter from DOT Borough Commissioner Thomas Curitore that says in part: “The sign installation started on July 27th between the hours of 7:30AM and 9:00AM and was monitored due to changing conditions and was completed on August 4th. We will continue to monitor the area and make any necessary changes that may be warranted.”
