B.P. Molinaro provides $3,000 for St. Patrick’s Day Parade
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Borough President James P. Molinaro today announced the allocation of $3,000 in funding support for Staten Island’s St. Patrick’s Day parade, one of the Borough’s most popular events.
Prior to the City’s budget crisis, the Borough President’s Office allocated $9,000 annually to help finance the parade. But with the grant process no longer available, Molinaro has reached into his expense funds to help support the event.
“In this time of fiscal constraint, I couldn’t be more pleased that my office is still able to help support this important community event,” said Molinaro. “The Staten Island St. Patrick’s Day Parade is one of our Borough’s most popular traditions. I want to commend the organizers of the parade for their extraordinary efforts year after year.”
At the announcement in his Borough Hall office, Molinaro presented a mock check to Parade Chairman Charles “Chip” McLean and 2010 Grand Marshal Joan Barry Hughes, only the second female to serve in that capacity in the parade’s history.
The 46th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade takes place on Sunday, March 7th, with a 12:30 p.m. step-off from Forest Avenue and Hart Boulevard in West Brighton.
